Maryland has a program to award grants to non-profit organizations to install security systems, called Protecting Against Hate Crimes (PAHC). The grant is awarded through the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services.
The mission of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services is to support and advise the governor on criminal justice strategies. The office enables grants such as PAHC to improve public safety and reduce crime, as well as provide support for victims of hate crimes.
The goal of the PAHC is to support non-profit organizations, which include faith-based organizations, that may be targets for hate crimes based on their work and location. PAHC creates a way for these organizations and law enforcement to better share information, collaborate, and provide services for victims and communities.
Funds can be spent on security personnel, equipment, and software, as well as any physical security improvements. Grants are currently awarded in amounts up to $150,000. Any non-profit or faith-based organization is eligible to apply with the deadline being early July for the next fiscal year. Find out more information here.
