Two animal hospitals came to Surveillance Secure to help them update their surveillance, access control, and intercom systems that had become obsolete.

Town and Country Animal Hospital in Fairfax, VA, and Columbia Pike Animal Hospital in Annandale, VA, are both veterinarian practices and animal hospitals, but Columbia Pike is a 24-hour hospital that offers emergency services.

Here’s how the Surveillance Secure team helped these hospitals update their security for improved patient and staff safety.

Outdated Systems That Needed Upgrading

The hospitals had video surveillance, access control, and panic alarm systems in three different buildings. Town and Country Animal Hospital is one building with multiple floors, while Columbia Pike Animal Hospital is one location with two separate buildings on campus.

However, the systems were outdated and not reliable. They wanted new systems that would work properly and help give them the control and convenience they needed. Their priority was providing staff and patient safety at the 24-hour facility.

Replacing Cameras and Adding Video Analytics

Surveillance Secure updated each system at each hospital. Town and Country had 18 cameras, and Surveillance Secure installed three more as new spaces became available in the building.

Columbia Pike had the Surveillance Secure team take over their older, outdated system but wanted to reuse their 15 existing cameras by adding them to the Avigilon Alta video cloud system. The Surveillance Secure team also added analytics to their existing cameras for smart surveillance.

These cameras monitor the interior and exterior of the buildings. On the exterior, the entire parking lot, sidewalks, and the perimeter of the building are visible. The cameras have already been helpful as they were able to capture video to see exactly what happened when someone fell in the parking lot and when a vehicle was hit.

Interior Surveillance and Panic Alarms

The interior cameras at each hospital are in place mainly for safety concerns. For example, treatment areas are monitored via surveillance to ensure employees and patients are safe. The hospitals also have 24-hour recorded surveillance of the pharmacy to monitor access to medications and keep them secure.

The panic alarms at the hospitals are in treatment areas or spaces where employees may be alone with animals or pet owners. These alarms allow staff to request assistance if anything dangerous begins to happen or a sudden medical emergency occurs.

Access Control for Building Security

The hospital access control systems allow management to control who can enter secure spaces within the facilities. They also control external entry doors. The system lets employees move freely between locations without keeping track of keys for every building and room. The system also prevents unauthorized access to certain rooms, such as where medication is kept, and pet owner access to the building after-hours at Town and Country.

Expanded Surveillance With Facility Growth

After completing the updates for each animal hospital, Surveillance Secure has done several additional security projects for them, including adding 10 more cameras to the Columbia Pike campus.

As the facilities continue to grow, both Town and Country and Columbia Pike Animal Hospital have asked Surveillance Secure to augment their systems. They recently renovated a new building next door to the main hospital and included Avigilon Video and access control because they are so pleased with the new systems.

Surveillance Secure is happy to assist these hospitals with their surveillance needs so they can continue providing excellent security and services to their patients.

The Church at Martinsburg, a religious organization in Berkeley County, West Virginia, worked with Surveillance Secure to secure their 30,000-square-foot building.

With lots of hallways, corners, and nooks, especially in the Children’s Ministry space, the church wanted to secure all its spaces with proper surveillance. One of their highest priorities was providing a safe place for children in the Children’s Ministry space so that the church didn’t have to worry about people or children going where they couldn’t be seen.

In addition, the church also wanted to utilize its entire space outside of Sunday mornings while ensuring the property and guests were safe when staff members were not present. Since the church couldn’t require staff to work every evening and on weekends when there were events, surveillance would allow them to utilize the space without sacrificing the safety and security of its facility and guests.

Camera, Access Control, and Video Intercom Installation

The Church at Martinsburg turned to Surveillance Secure because they had known Chief Operating Officer Will Biggerman for many years. Will had assisted the church with various security projects in the past, and the trust and rapport the church had with Will made Surveillance Secure the best choice for this project.

Surveillance Secure installed 13 cameras and access control systems on three private doors to the administrative offices. They also installed a video intercom and access control system at the front door for the church’s administrative assistant, as well as the technology needed to monitor the system remotely.

The cameras allowed the church staff to see just about every inch of the facility, not just in the Children’s Ministry space. As a result, the church can now see anyone walking through the space and what they do. The access control system has also improved security for the administrative offices and staff. Now, they can restrict inside access and access to specific areas to individuals or groups the church chooses. This is especially helpful when unexpected visitors come to the facility during the week.

Surveillance Secure worked closely with the church, listening to their concerns and developing a scalable plan that allows them to add additional equipment to expand the system as needed.

Remote Monitoring for Enhanced Safety and Peace of Mind

For The Church at Martinsburg, one of the best parts of the system is the ability to monitor all their cameras from anywhere at any time. They don’t need to be in a specific room or even on-site to keep an eye on things.

Their staff can watch the activity in the Children’s Ministry while not physically standing in the space. The receptionist can know who is at the door or who might be wandering around the facility from the safety of her office. The facility manager can ensure participants lock the doors after using them for a meeting. And if the security alarm goes off at night, the pastor can see if someone has actually breached an exterior door to verify a threat.

Having this security and peace of mind has been a huge relief for the church. “I am thankful to have worked with everyone from Surveillance Secure,” said the client. “They were very professional, competent, and responsive. We will continue to use them for all our needs and recommend them to other businesses as well.”

Surveillance Secure recently worked with a local airport commission in Virginia to install surveillance cameras, intelligent video analytics, and access control solutions for their facility.

The client needed reliable surveillance for their property, but they also needed improved perimeter security. The Surveillance Secure team worked with the client to secure their perimeter with a gate system for their access control needs.

In addition to the gate system, the airport commission wanted to utilize intelligent video analytics to enhance their surveillance and access control technologies. As a result, Surveillance Secure integrated license plate recognition (LPR) technology with the surveillance cameras, which allows the client to capture the license plates of all vehicles entering or attempting entry into the facility.

License plate recognition analytics also allow the airport commission to automatically have a record of all captured license plates. So anytime they need to search the database for a particular plate or date and time stamp, the system allows them to do that.

Now that the airport commission’s perimeter is secure and they can effectively monitor incoming vehicles with surveillance and video analytics, the client has more insight into their traffic and searchable records for captured license plates.

When a distribution warehouse of a large regional chain of grocery stores needed video surveillance for their freezer space, they trusted Surveillance Secure with the job. The client required video surveillance and wireless internet access points installed in their warehouse-sized freezer space, which had a constant temperature of 0 degrees and fans blowing at -15 degrees.

The client selected Surveillance Secure because of their attention to detail and the relationship they had built with the client. The Surveillance Secure team installed six-inch strand multi-mode fiber cables from the new warehouse to their existing operations office, which was a three-story open-ceiling warehouse.

Surveillance Secure also installed new surveillance cameras inside and outside the warehouse space to provide operational integrity and workflow management for the client. Cable runs of over 600 feet from the operations office to a new 12U rack installation were also required, which housed new Cisco switches and power backup for the newly installed cameras.

With 15,000 feet of cable and hundreds of circle hooks, the technicians worked on the top of a three-story freezer running infrastructure cable for weeks, and in the freezer hanging access points. By the time the project was finished, cabling was successfully installed, 16 cameras had been connected through conduit both inside and outside, and the client successfully finished the second phase of their three-phase project.

Through working with this distribution warehouse, Surveillance Secure was able to cultivate a deeper understanding of the client’s needs and how they operate to deliver more practical solutions. As a result, the client has already asked the team back to take on their security and surveillance camera installation, including cabling and networking for speaker systems, at their supermarkets.

The Surveillance Secure team worked with an existing client to augment their surveillance in their parking area. The client had installed electric charging stations for electric vehicles; however, several drivers had damaged the stations by driving away with the charger still plugged into their car.

Although the client had surveillance cameras, none were monitoring the charging stations. As a result, Surveillance Secure added several cameras, which worked with the existing security system the team had previously installed. The new cameras covered the charging stations and allowed the client to have a clear view and capture of the license plate of each car that pulled in at the station with license plate recognition analytics.

The new cameras are able to get clear shots of the vehicles and license plates regardless of lighting conditions, so the client has reliable surveillance day and night. Surveillance Secure also added signage stating that the area was under surveillance to further deter vandalism and damage.

Now, the client can effectively monitor the charging station area, and the system notifies them in real-time if an incident occurs. The system also emails the client a video clip of the incident, complete with license plate capture, should a driver pull away with the charger still attached. The client can also access the cameras remotely online to see video in real-time or review an incident.
